Shady Grove
Sweet Tomatoes, great healthy fast food

this sign tells it all

We were all very hungry after touring NASA. We were really excited to find a Sweet Tomatoes for dinner. Sweet Tomatoes is a restaurant we have identified as being a great partner for our 'healthy eating' initiative. Technically it could be called a fast food chain, but it is the only one we know that is built around a giant, fresh salad bar. The restaurants are 'serve yourself' and have a very comfortable, homey feel. We stayed for a while, ate and did our budget with the kids for the past week.

Next it was on to Austin, Texas which is a very unique town. The motto you see everywhere is, "Keep Austin Weird". It encourages everyone to support local retailers and it is certainly working. There are not many national chain stores dotting the town, but rather interesting restaurants and shops giving the city a distinct personality. Our friend Miki recommended a stop at a restaurant called Shady Grove which we all loved.

Ater much educational touring, Aidan got online to investigate what to do in Austin. He was able to find out that Austin is the home of the largest laser tag facility in Texas. Staying true to letting the kids pick what they are interested in, off we went. I was skeptical. Never having played laser tag, I must say it was very fun and we all worked up quite a sweat.
